Building a Culture of Gratitude Through Recognition

In a move to redefine public recognition in Nigeria, a new awards initiative has been launched under the name The Award Guys, offering completely free, verified awards to individuals making significant impact across various sectors.

The program, a subsidiary of the communications firm The PR Guys, is the first of its kind in the country to publicly recognize excellence without requesting fees, nominations from elites, or behind-the-scenes lobbying. Spearheading the effort is a figure known as The Chief Secretary (TCS), who also serves as the initiative’s Executive Coordinator. He is the face of the organization and anchor of its monthly address videos, where each cycle of recipients is formally announced and celebrated.

Twelve categories are honored monthly, ranging from technology, business, education and leadership, to entertainment and social impact. Each winner receives a custom plaque, national press coverage, and a permanent listing in the Recipients’ Archive all delivered free of charge. TCS reinforces the philosophy that guides the program with a public mantra: “Recognition must never be bought it must be earned.”

What sets The Award Guys apart is not just the absence of application fees or sponsorship politics, but the presence of a twelve-member Jury composed of credible, independent professionals. This Jury diverse in background and expertise deliberates in confidence each month to identify individuals making genuine contributions to society.

The monthly cycle begins with a public nomination window from the 1st to the 7th, followed by a period of evaluation and selection by the Jury. Names of recipients are published in two national newspapers and further celebrated in an official video tribute released by TCS before month’s end.

The awards initiative has already begun drawing attention for its refusal to accept payments in any form. On its website, a bold statement reiterates its core principle: “We do not request, accept, or solicit money EVER.”

Designed to return credibility and dignity to the idea of public awards, The Award Guys stands out in a landscape often dominated by pay-to-play recognition. According to its creators, the goal is simple to spotlight individuals doing great things, fairly and publicly.

Nominations are now open on the website platform at www (dot) theawardguys (dot) com, where visitors can also view recent recipients and watch the latest message from The Chief Secretary.
