In a landmark achievement for Nigeria’s tech education sector, SQI College of ICT has emerged as the top-ranked institution in the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) category among over 173 Innovation Enterprise Institutions (IEIs) listed under JAMB for the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) cycle.
The college, headquartered in Ogbomoso, Oyo State, received the highest number of first-choice applications among ICT-focused institutions an outcome hailed as a major validation of its dedication to training job-ready professionals in high-demand fields such as software engineering, data science, robotics, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity.
“This isn’t just a win for SQI,” said one proud alumnus. “It’s a win for every young Nigerian who dreams of building a future through technology.”
A Singular Commitment to Tech Education
What sets SQI apart is not only its top-10 ranking but also its distinction as the only institution on the list solely dedicated to ICT. While other institutions offer general vocational training or combine disciplines, SQI has carved a niche with an unflinching focus on delivering industry-relevant, globally aligned tech programs.
“Young Nigerians are clearly prioritising digital careers,” said Laurel, the Senior Special Assistant to the Oyo State Governor on Projects. “And SQI is responding with laser-focused training. This is not just academic excellence it’s strategic national development.”
Backed by Government Vision
SQI’s success reflects Nigeria’s broader push toward digital transformation. Government initiatives such as the National Digital Economy Policy (2020–2030), the Digital Nigeria Initiative, and the Nigeria Startup Act are driving a national agenda that positions ICT as the backbone of future economic growth.
By emerging as the only pure-ICT institution among JAMB’s top-ranked IEIs, SQI is seen as a grassroots success story aligned with these policies.
“This is what we envisioned when we backed Innovation Enterprise Institutions,” said a government official. “That homegrown institutions could evolve into globally relevant changemakers.”
From Local Roots to Global Reach
Founded in Ogbomoso, SQI now draws students from over 30 Nigerian states and has produced alumni working across Europe, North America, and Africa’s top tech ecosystems.
“From Ogbomoso to the world our mission has always been to equip the average Nigerian youth with globally competitive digital skills,” said Adeyemi C. Aderinto, Founder and President of SQI College of ICT. “Being recognised by JAMB as the only ICT-focused institution in the Top 10 shows we’re not just on the right path we’re leading it.”
A Model for Africa’s Tech Future
As SQI advances its plan to build a university-grade tech city, the institution is offering more than education it’s offering a blueprint for national transformation. In a continent where millions of young people are entering the workforce annually, accessible and specialised digital education has become a necessity, not a luxury.
SQI’s JAMB recognition is not just a milestone it’s a signal that Africa’s digital future is being built from the ground up, powered by institutions that blend local vision with global ambition.
